There are thousands of Alpha courses running across the UK. Churches of all denominations and persuasions provide them, and you will also find them at most university campuses, at offices and workplaces, in prisons and at military bases. And it’s is no longer specific to the UK; it now operates in over 100 different countries worldwide.
Alpha courses have a number of separate sessions each looking at a different topic. They almost always start with a meal or some form of light refreshments. Getting to know the other people on the course is an important ingredient of Alpha. After the meal, there is a short talk or DVD, followed by the opportunity to discuss the issues raised and ask questions. There is no charge for participating in an Alpha course though dependent on the venue, there may be a charge for any drinks purchased.
At Hope Church, we offer the following guarantee on our Alpha courses:
- No-one is expected to speak or contribute if they don’t want to
- No question you have will be considered too awkward or too trivial
- No-one is placed under any pressure to continue the course, become a Christian or join the church if they don’t want to.
At Hope Church, we try to be ready to start a new Alpha course as soon as there are sufficient people in our area who are interested. So please let us know using our Contact Form if it is something you would like to do, and we’ll let you know when and where one will be starting. And if you have friends who are interested as well, so much the better.
