There are thousands of alpha courses running across the UK. Churches of all denominations and persuasions provide them, and you will also find them at most university campuses, at offices and workplaces, in prisons and at military bases. And it’s is no longer specific to the UK; it now operates in over 100 different countries worldwide.
Alpha courses have a number of separate sessions each looking at a different topic. They almost always start with a meal or some form of light refreshments. Getting to know the other people on the course is an important ingredient of Alpha. After the meal, there is a short talk or DVD, followed by the opportunity to discuss the issues raised and ask questions. There is no charge for participating in an Alpha course (though dependant on the venue there may be a charge for food or drinks purchased).
Our aim is to be able to offer courses wherever in our region there is sufficient interest. Our current course meets at the Community Help Hub, but dependent on numbers, we either meet in someone’s home, or perhaps in a café, pub, village hall or Community Centre. Please use the contact form below to let us know if you are interested. And if you have friends who are interested as well, so much the better.
At Hope Church, we offer the following guarantee on our Alpha courses:
- No-one is expected to speak or contribute if they don’t want to
- No question you have will be considered too awkward or too trivial
- No-one is placed under any pressure to continue the course, become a Christian or join the church if they don’t want to
Our Current Alpha
It runs for 5 weeks on Wednesday evenings starting 19th October, 7.15 – 9.30pm.
We’re meeting at the Community Help Hub on Front Street West in Bedlington, Northumberland.
Don’t live in Northumberland? Don’t despair! We can put you in touch with an Alpha course in your part of the country, and quite possibly in another country. Alternatively check out alpha.org for more information.
