I was brought up in a Christian home
It’s true that how you are brought up can make a very real difference to what happens later in life. But the decision to follow Jesus is something each of us needs to make for ourselves. A Christian upbringing alone is not enough, and equally there are thousands of people whose upbringing was decidedly not Christian who have subsequently found peace with God through becoming a Christian. To find out how, check our What Is A Christian page, or join one of our Alpha Courses.
I am living in a Christian Country
Where you live doesn’t make you a Christian. Which is just as well, as there are many dedicated Christians living in places where actually it is quite dangerous to be a follower of Jesus. Being a Christian involves having a living, specific faith. You can find out exactly what is involved by looking at our What Is A Christian page, and if you want more information, why not check out one of our Alpha Courses.
I believe in doing good, and helping others
That’s very commendable. But so do most people, including many humanists and atheists. Being a Christian involves much more than this. Have a look at our What Is A Christian page, or investigate the issue further at one of our Alpha Courses.
I have been baptised and / or confirmed
The real question here is what you believed at the time you were baptised or confirmed. If it’s just something you did out of rote, or because your parents expected you to, or even if it happened when you were a baby and you knew nothing about it, then on it’s own it won’t make you a Christian. See whether you hold the beliefs we list on our What Is A Christian page, or join one of our Alpha Courses to discuss the issue further.
I believe in God
Great! But so does the devil. Not even that is sufficient to make you a Christian. And many people have a vague belief in God without really being certain as to his nature or character. So, you do need to be clear as to what is involved specifically in being a Christian. An Alpha Course would be ideal for you. And meanwhile, you can also have a look at our What Is A Christian page.
None of the above make me a Christian. It’s something else entirely
You’re right. Being a Christian involves a lot more, and it sounds like you already know that. But do check our What Is A Christian page, and if still unsure, you can explore the issue further at one of our Alpha Courses.
